After your rest instead of the long trip down the mountain the Baron has you bring horses and wagon to the portal room. He begins a ritual and soon the portal flares to life. On the other side you see a large stone room. Golden Lions that sit at tables in the room rush to the portal drawing swords. The swords are raised in a cheer as the Captain steps through. He is surrounded by the soldiers of Brindol as you step through.
Jalissa Silverleaf steps through on Captain Jairo's arm. It seems the return of his family name has lead to a new burst of confidence. BA had watched them for years exchange words and glances and it took near death and torture to finally bring them together.
Young Thurann walks behind them then rushes forward moving from soldier to soldier he receives everything from hugs to sharp punches in the shoulder.
The celebration is dampened as Adronsius the alchemist and Zerriksa the Herbalist help the broken Mirtala through the gate.
You are paraded by the golden lions from the Brindol Keep to the stage of the marketplace. You see in the last 2 days the people of Brindol have been hard a work. A large fire burns west of the city with black smoke. Captain Derrius explains it is the bodies of the goblins, ogres, and wolves.
After the room clears BA follows. He soon find Chetum hiding in the same shadows. The Stone Wyvern's Inn's namesakes make an easy perch to watch the festivities.
The High Lord and Lord Warden take the center stage with Baron Jairo and your group. The High Lord Jarmman looks like he has had a long 2 days. He smile is large but eyes are tired. His normally perfect dress and grooming is worn.
The Lord Warden Orenna looks un-phased from past couple of days. His smiles and waves as his eyes shift back and forth.
Lord Noel arrives with servants bearing drink behind him. He move to your group and the halfling grips the dwarf's forearm in greeting,"How is my girl? Did she take out a few goblins for ye."

Fargrim says "Well, she liked hittin' the bugs along the path, but she seemed a bit less enthusiastic about the zombies. P'raps she thought they were beneath her dignity. Or maybe she needs a different load. Have ye noticed a difference wi' weighted projectiles..." He engages Lord Noel in a bunch of amateur firearms engineering nerdery, probably more than he wanted to hear.
Izzy's paying close attention to the Lord Warden. [Insight total: 22] What's his deal?

As Blackarrow hides in the shadows, he whispers to Chetum "It turns out we were right. Orenna was taking goblin parts, and according to the herbalist was making a tidy profit under the table. Do you know if the bonuses he gave to the hunters were from his coffers or they city's? If he's funding his own business with Brindol's tax money, that may be the swiftest way for us to unseat him. Even if not, there's still the matter of him endangering the entire city for personal gain."

"Lord Warden would never give up a copper of his own money. The Half elf Troyas been watching the cities coffers as treasurer for just a year now. He has been questioning the Warden about the finances and all the old Warden is laugh like a crazy man and tell him it is a bunch of mullarky." Chetum replies.
Lord Noel looks to Fargrim,"I have a larger shot for the biggin's and have heard some stuff it with shot that has been blessed. Zombies have so many holes in them they probably don't notice a few extra."
Izzy notes the Warden is looking over each of you. He smiles and approaches Hraken whispering in his ear,"There be no talk of what they found you hear this is your doing too Fang of Brindol."
Hraken looks down at him,"I was paid for a service. I did not steal or hide anything I have ever done and I won't begin to hide now."
The Lord Warden still wears a smile as he whispers in a harsher tone,"You will do as I tell you beast or I would put you on a leash."
Malic, Izzy, and Oloric see Hraken's claws pop and his teeth bare.

As Izzy walks towards the impending doom, he hisses over his shoulder at Fargrim, (in dwarvish) "Hey beardo, trouble's brewing! Heads up!" Fargrim looks over at his infuriated semi-feline companion, and thanks the divine impulse that suggested that he prepare Calm Emotions this morning. He begins praying, and everybody within a 20 foot radius of Hraken can make a DC 13 Charisma check, or become indifferent towards each other. [Essentially, anybody they're mad at, they don't care about right now. Specifically, Hraken and the Lord Warden. Unless they make their saves. You know what I mean.]
Izzy smiles broadly as he walks up to the two sourpusses. "Gentlemen! This should be a time of celebration, and good feelings, and obvious realizations that certain facts are about to come to light that are known to far too many people at this point to cover up, and that perhaps folks who're concerned with the fallout of such revelations might find it more profitable to either come up with a REALLY GOOD EXPLANATION (hint hint) or start packing their bags for an extended fact-finding mission on a beach somewhere far far away. This would be your cue, m'Lord Warden, to make a rational choice, and yours, furball, to get your shit together." [Persuasion total: 21]

Hraken through words and spells pops back in his claws,"I will stand for all I have done. I was hired to do a job. I did the job. I was paid. There is no shame in that. What you did after may be a problem for you."
The High Lord stops speaking to the crowd that is gathering and turns to the Lord Warden and the party,"What is going on here. We have our people back, our sister city of Rivenroar may return to us. The passage to the northern lands is safe again. The Lich is dead. This should be a celebration."
"This beast threatened me High Lord. I believe he may be suffering from the affliction that is effecting Mirtal. He has been tainted and must be held to discover why he would threatened the Lord Warden. His little gutter lord will also need be arrested." The Lord Warden begins to wave some Golden Lions forward. The Lord Warden does not seem angry, just cold and calculating.
Lord Troyas has arrived at the stage and is moving toward the group as he notices the argument his smile begins to disappear. "Why do we speak of arresting those who just saved us?"
Lord Noel moves beside his friend Fargrim,"No one is taking you anywhere my friend. You just opened the northern passage which will make me a great big pile of gold to put away with my other piles of gold."

Izzy looks theatrically disappointed. "What, you're not even going to TRY a bribe? I probably would have taken a bribe. I probably could have convinced the rest of the crew to take a bribe, too! Well, most of them." He shakes his head. "You make me sad, Lord Warden." Izzy looks over at the new Baron, and says "A moment of your time, m'Lord Jairo? And Captain Jairo, this concerns you as well. It seems the Lord Warden has some concerns about all of those goblin pieces that turned out to be such a vital part of the evil plot against Brindol. He seems to think we might suspect that he might be involved, what with him being the one who sponsored the collection of the goblin parts. Awkward, yes? I'm sure it's all a big misunderstanding. After all, it's not like he TOLD the goblins where to look for their husbands missing family jewels, is it?" Izzy smirks at the Warden. "...you didn't tell them where to look, right? Because that WOULD be awkward."

Blackarrow looks to Chetum. "It looks like could be trouble ahead. You may want to make yourself scarce, this could get messy."
He quietly pulls out his bow and nocks an arrow, preparing to cause a rather large distraction if the party needs to escape. Where he's aiming, well, he'd like to put the arrow right between the Lord Warden's eyes, but he doesn't want to make a martyr out of the man, so he'll have to settle for slicing through the ropes on any nearby banners hanging above. He just hopes they can clear this up peacefully so he doesn't have to take the shot.

The Captain/Baron comes forward,"First these men are citizens of Rivenroar and under my protection. Second, We have a seen the evidence clearly. Lastly, I always hated you Warden. I charge you Lord Warden with endangerment of your people, crimes against humanity in the genocide of the goblin tribe, and theft of city funds."
Lord Troyas steps in,"The the Baron gives a just charge and as a noble may make claim against the Lord Warden. We will have a period of one month for the gathering of evidence in the case during which time the Lord Warden will remain in custody of..."
"I demand trail by combat before Magnus and the Gods of Mullurand." the Lord Warden states. "I demand it now not in one months time."
THe High Lord steps forth. The people are perfectly quite now listening to the response,"You have that right Lord Warden. Who will fight for you?"
"The pride of the Golden Lions will defend me." The Lord Warden states. You know the pride of the lions is a unit of six warriors, wizards, and warrior priests.
"Baron Jario who will champion you?" The High Lord asks.

OOC: hang on, I thought the Captain's dad, the old wizard, was the Baron? Wouldn't Kartinex be a Baronet or something? Title should go to the elder Jairo, shouldn't it? Or am I confused? Also, should the Warden be able to shanghai the local swat team into being his judicial champions? Doesn't he have his own retainers, as a noble? I was just wondering.

Malik steps forward, "I will stand champion against the Lord Warden but the coward will have no place here once Magnus uses me as his conduit of justice."

The Wizard is telling his son that he will abdicate the title and authority to him. He is much more interested in his families magical research and knowledge that ruling. So the younger Jario is the Baron. Just because he states he wants the Golden Lions best and brightest doesn't mean you can't talk them out of it. He can say he wants you as his champion, you would need to accept. IF they do not agree he will need to lean on his own men. Maybe some persuasion, Negotiation, Intimidation would work on the Golden Lions.

Ned Chetum does not move from Blackarrow's side,"Alys is off getting help so she will not be fighting for the Warden. Captain Derrius the Paladin would not enjoy being part but will disobey an order. Captain Leia owes you her life but again is a woman of duty. The Battlemage Rowan is the Lord Warden's man as are the clerics of Grithstane. Those evil looking twins of the god of death have always made me grip my dagger when they walk by. They will fight for the Lord Warden for certain. The cleric of Magnus is dead so the Lord Warden will not be able to fill a full 6 for challenge from the Lions. He may need to pull in a sergent at arms like red or Nodwik."

Izzy's smirk gets even wider. "I may be a 'gutter lord' at the moment, m'Lord Warden, but I do have a passing acquaintance with how these challenges are supposed to work. Should you be using official resources to defend yourself against a personal charge of malfeasance? Have you no retainers of your own? One wonders how many other times you've used official resources on personal business." His smirk becomes a theatrical frown of concern. "You DID pay for those bounties, that had such unfortunate results, out of your own purse, yes?"
Izzy's talking AT Warden Orenna, but he's talking TO the Golden Lions, trying to convince them that A: Orenna's being unethical in asking them to fight his battles, and that B: he's trying to hide his guilt. [Persuasion total: 18]

Lord Warden looks at the High Lord.
"He is right Lord Warden unless they are your men the men of the Golden Lions should be neutral in this affair." The High Lord states.
"The neither can the new Baron. He may only bring men who bear allegiance to the House of Rivenroar. By my count that would be Baron Jario, his son, and his father." The Lord Warden smirks.
The Paladin Captain Derrius moves forward he turns to the High Lord,"Sire, Permission to relinquish my vow to your house to rejoin my families ancestoral house Rivenroar."
"Derrius if he looses you will be the next Lord Warden with title of your own. You will give this up?" The High Lord states.
"I will for justice." He states.
Derrius kneels before Jario. The Baron draw his sword and offers it's blade to Derrius,"My lord I swear allegiance to House Jario or Rivenroar."
"Rise Lord Warden Derrius of Rivenroar," Jario states. He turns and puts a hand on Malik's shoulder,"and you fine warrior will be a man of Rivenroar."
The Lord Warden looks back to Izzy,"There is a legal budget for bounties and hiring of outside forces. It is what is paying you wage and is perfectly legal. I don't see why we have this challenge at all."
"Yes," states Lord Troyas,"but making purchase of materials used in a personal and profitable business venture is not legal. You used city funds to gather your materials then sold your Potions of Goblin Fertility privately and pocketed what Lord Warden. Thousands of gold, tens of thousands?"
The Lady of the Moon on Baron Jario's arm speaks,"He said he was pouring the profits back into the city treasury. He told me we kept it quiet because men would not purchase if it became well known we where selling aids to the act of love. That men appreciate privacy in such things. We have created at least 100,000 potions in the past 10 years."
"Sorry to underestimate your ability to make a profit Lord Warden. So we are talking millions of gold over the past decade." Lord Troyas smiles.
"Woah, I need to get into the limp willy business," Lord Noel whispers to Fargrim.
