"Hi, I am Paelias and I am glad to meet you, master dwarf." Whispering, he continues: "there are some creatures up in the rafters." Fargrim holds out his hand and gets a bit annoyed at the fact that the elf was clearly not paying much attention to his introduction. Apparently not many social types in the Hall of Great Valor today... or maybe this one is just aloof. OOC: please do not decide how my character is reacting to yours. That's my decision. In my previous post I stated that Paelias was listening very carefully and that he was [bold]not[/bold] looking up. He glances up only once per minute, a quick look and then looks level again. Your dwarf doesn't see Paelias studying the ceiling. That would be much too obvious. The creatures would know directly that they've been spotted and would flee. That's what Paelias wants to prevent. Please change your post.

Four Golden Lions wander in with the normal crowd. Paelias and Fargrim note they have hands on their hilts and are glancing up.
Sertanian smiles and announces to the group,"Now the Hall itself was created with pieces of the old Brindol. The cornerstone itself has an interesting dedication on it. Follow me outside to read the cornerstone and hear the bell of festival marking the destruction of the Wyrmlord." He motions the citizen to pass outside.
They are passing through the main double doors when the church bells ring from the Church of Mangus and the crowd cheers. The guards hang back not leaving.
OOC: Or Paelias is trying to be smooth about it but a seasoned dwarf adventurer with good perception can read his small movements. I rolled Paelias deception and gave Fargrim and average perception and he beat your deception. Lucky the guys on the ceiling have not beat your deception but they have a disadvantage because of the distance to the ceiling, the angle thy are looking from, and the crowd. I will post the mechanics more but generally like to just put the rolls in the narrative. Like your original perception roll to hear them in the rafters.

Now that the Golden Lions have entered, Paelias hangs back as well and looks up, wondering what the creatures up there are going to do. The blue and green clad elf with the staff in his hand whispers to Fargrim: "Now we should try to catch one of them buggers".
OOC: how high up are the rafters?

Rafters are 20 feet up it is a high vaulted museum with the peak of the ceiling about 35 feet in the middle of the room.

Could be no coincidence that guards were coming in. Looking up, Fargrim chuckles and whispers back to the elf: "I admire your boldness! I say we catch them all, now that backup has arrived." Fargrim always thought creatures comfortable with heights could not be trusted. He felt his crossbow on his back to make sure it was there. OOC: My bad, Paelias. I'll try not to assume your reactions in the future. I'm just a bit rusty on the dynamics of Play-by-Post OOC2: Are there any windows through which the creatures in the rafters might have entered the room, through which they might also leave? If so, and if everyone else has left the room, I'll use Thaumaturgy to shut windows and doors (if open).

Just after Fargrim has closed the windows or doors, Paelias begins a simple invocation and a blue ray of icy cold shoots from his fingertips towards the nearest creature in the rafters.
OOC: cast ray of frost, spell attack roll 8+5=13. if it hits, damage 6 cold damage, and movement slowed by 10'.

OC: The double doors leads outside. The windows are stained glass and do not open. There are 2 ceiling skylights that are open to allow a breeze. Thaumaturgy can close one at a time, but can be used 3 rounds in a row to close all three doors. The question is which one do you want to close first.
Paelias strikes one of the cloaked shapes. It screams in the goblin tongue a the frost covers it's body.
OC: The goblins are AC13 and HP 11. You are not sure what weapons are under the cloaks.
As you do this Sertanian flicks his hand upwards and calls upon arcane words of power. Three bolts of arcane force burst from his hands and strikes the other three goblins in the rafters. The first covered in frost falls from the rafters landing on the ground next to the model of Brindol. The other two grunt as the bolts strike.
The guards pull their blades and raise shields looking to the rafters for attackers.
OC: Please roll for initiative

Looks like Fargrim's plan to theatrically shut the exits will have to wait. He readies his crossbow.
OOC: Initiative roll = 14

He can have closed one doorway during the surprise round. Which one did he close?

OOC: For now he'll close one of the ceiling skylights, the one that has the most creatures (that Fargrim can see) near it. By the way, I forgot to mentions the spells I prepared for the day: Cure Wounds, Bless, Command and Inflict Wounds. 4 spells (my casting modifier + level) and I have 2 level 1 slots.

Paelias enjoys this as goblins are his enemies who killed his former master gnome Gobbletook. He prepares to cast another invocation and cover another creature in frost.
OOC: Initiative roll 9+2=11.

The Initiative will be PC GM PC 2 GM moves PC GM PC GM PC GM 2PC 4GM There are a few more goblins than you spotted. Who ever post first will be first up. If you have any ideas for the guards or commands you could try to tell them what to do. They don't really know you so they may not listen.
Your up!

PC Paelias attacks slowing and damaging a goblin that was already hit by Sertanin's missile the creature dies frozen to the beam overhead. GM A formally unseen goblin pounces from the beams onto Sertanin. The old mage and historian is slammed to the ground by the force and the Goblin's short mace slams into his skull. The goblin then flips a knife at one of the guards that bounces off his shield. (Extra Success with first attack allowing second attack) PC next 2 GM moves PC GM PC GM PC GM 2PC 4GM

Fargrim shouts to the guards "By Duin's beard, goblins! Lions, get the one on the ground, I'll try to bring another one down." Fargrim shoots his crossbow at on of the goblins on the beams.
Roll: I rolled a 1. No joke.
Fargrim misloads the bolt and completely fumbles his first shot: "Gah! Blasted thing!". He then moves, cursing, trying not to stay directly beneath any goblins and if possible taking cover behind something such as a display case for one of the Relics.
OOC: Is Sertanian dead/unconscious? And from the initiative list I'm assuming there are 10 goblins total, is that correct?
