The Hall of Great Valor was commissioned to be built on the very spot the half-dragon warlord Azarr Kul as a memorial to the great heroes who saved Brindol from the Red Hand of Doom. For the next 2 years, the majority of the townsfolk poured their hearts into its construction. Today the Hall is the embodiment of Brindol’s pride, a monument to their achievements, and a testament to their spirit.
The treasures in the “Hall of Great Valor.” Most of the “treasures” have little or no intrinsic value. They’re museum pieces from the “Red Hand” invasion many years ago. But the sentimental value to the town is immense.
Sertanian is the caretaker of the Great Hall Relics. He was alive during the first Red Hand Invasion, so these treasures hold great historical value to him. He will take whatever time necessary to teach visitors about the invasion.
An ornate, gilded dragoncrest helm, worn to the victory ceremony by the warrior of the heroes. A ceremonial platinum longsword, worn to the victory ceremony by the ranger of the heroes. A set of iron gauntlets with extensive filigree, worn to the victory ceremony by the cleric of the heroes. A set of three shields painted with the Red Hand insignia, each with a charred hole through the center caused by the heroes wizard’s chain lightning spell. A heraldic battle standard depicting two hands clasped in a handshake, a sign of the treaty between humans and elves to defend the town. A large diorama of the Battle of Brindol the exact moment Azar Kul fell.
Sertanian is in his glory moving from piece to piece explaining in great detail the Battle of Brindol.

Paelias, a high elf wearing a dark blue tunic and a green coat and resting his hand on a staff, listens attentively to Sertanian. "Can you tell me something about the wizards involved in that battle? Were there wizards on both sides, or just on the side of the Red Hand? Or no wizards at all? Were wizards accepted as part of normal warfare at that time? Moreover, has Azar Kul said anything special before he entered the battle, or just before he fell? Did he announce that the orcs would return after a decade, like it appears to be happening now?"
Paelias decides to investigate the painting: 'a large diorama of the Battle of Brindol the exact moment Azar Kul fell.' Question in his mind as he looks at it: is it exactly as you would expect if only mundane weapons were used, or is there a sign of magic being used at that moment?

Sertanian looks to the elf and smiles."Yes my friend many great magics were in play at the battle. The Druid Lich used a staff that brought darkness to the skies and rained lightning on the lands. The Wyrmlord Kharn sent the Dragon Abithraix to set the streets aflame. Hill Giants bombarded the walls with massive stones. They fought over the walls and into the streets with warriors dressed with armor and weapons made from the scales and teeth of the dragons. We had great magic on our side as well the city of Overlook and your own land of Dennovar and War wizards from Rhest. Breya Fariza wielded staff, wand, and scrolls of arcane might. The Teifling Warlock Ahlgul rained down fire and brimstone of Kharn's forces. It was the divine that struck the final blow." He motions to the Platinum Sword. "Kharn struck down the Paladin Sir Baldack. All looked lost when the blade was raised by a vision of light and hope, The blade that struck down Kharn was held by an avatar of Magnus. As Kharn fell the divine that held the blade disappeared and the Battle of Brindol was over."

"Well that's an interesting end of the battle," the high elf says. "So it was kind of a divine intervention which decided it. But if that's true, then we're at the mercy of the gods, right? I mean, if only the gods prevent the orcs and the Lich and the Wyrmlord from entering this land, that means we can't hold this city ourselves. And what if there is some god who chooses the Wyrmlord's side? Then matters would really be grim indeed! What do you think Sertanian? Is this land in mortal peril?"

"We destroyed the wyrmlord. We have a bandit raid now and then. Sometimes the goblins find a wandering merchant but the back of the Red Hand Tribe has been broken. They will not be back for many a decade. We made sure of it," Sertanian states,"We celebrate this day because we are safe. Our heroes protected us and saved the Vale." Paelias hears a quite voice in the shadows of the ceiling timbers. "Heroes."
"Quiet Vizcull."Looking in the beams he see a couple of small figures huddled against the beams overhead.

Paelias looks up immediately as he hears the soft voices and looks at the whole ceiling to discover the beings who were talking just now. Rolled: 12 (d20+1 perception check, including prof. bonus). To verify this roll, go to www.rpglibrary.org/software/securedice/And fill in the following: Roll ID: 241285 MD5 checksum: 932ab15da3c3d271cf10bc2e4ee17845 (only the first roll counts at first, but if he sees nothing the first round, he keeps looking for 6 more rounds, therefore 7 rolls).

If he sees them, can he identify the species they belong to?

They are small cloaked figures doing a professional level job hiding in the rafters. He sees a hand in a mitten grasping the beam and a foot that is a pale flesh color. Looking closer at the foot he sees the sole looks dirty with a patch of greenish smear like moss. They are just hunched in the rafters as the citizens pass below and Sertanian continues his talk.

Paelias thinks: from their appearance they could be goblins. However, goblins aren't smart enough to hide unless there's an intelligent master who commands them to do so.
Paelias approaches Sertanian, waits for a pause in his lecture, and whispers in his ear (so that others can't overhear): "don't shout or jump, and certainly don't look up, but there are small creatures up in the rafters above us. Can you get some guards in here, without raising an alarm?"

Sertanian smiles and looks up without moving his head,"Little buggers, They have been trying to get their tribe's heraldry back for 10 years." He raises his hand in a salute looking to the guards at the entrance. One guard slowly backs out of the room as the other places a hand on his sword hilt. "The guard will be here in moments."

OC: I'm assuming I can still come into the scene now. If you want to cut my conversation short for somew action, please go ahead!
Meanwhile, Fargrim is at the opposite side of the Great Hall watching the relics at show. He knew the tales of the Diamond League, but to finally see the evidence... made him glad he left the frozen mountains to the far North he called home. He's been admiring the iron gauntlets for quite a few minutes now. He tries to start a conversation with a group of nearby visitors: "You ever been to Bordrin's Watch? Been dreaming about that legendary fortress for a while now, I have! There's no better armor out there than a thick set of stone walls around ye, heh. Alas, I must go to Brindol first. Duty calls! You look like the bigger town type, are you from Brindol? What can you tell me about that place?"
OC: My roll for Persuasion DC 12 was 4 (natural 5, -1 Cha modifier), so I fail. In the future I'll use some verifiable way to roll.

While waiting for more guards, Paelias listens carefully for more sounds from the creatures above. He also moves to a place in the room where he hasn't noticed the creatures, so that they can't jump on top of him from where they're hiding now. Listening carefully... After a minute he glances up again as if looking at a statue, but in reality looking at the ceiling again.

Fargrim tries to make conversation and finds the locals just move away him or shush him to listen to Sertanian speak of the Battle of Brindol.
He listens for a while noticing an elf interrupt the museum keeper. The museum keeper gives the young elf a smile and a salute.
Watching the elf for a while Fargrim notes he is not moving with the natural arrogance of his species. The elf is sliding toward the wall and seems to be glancing up quite a lot.

Fargrim approaches the elf and says "Ahem. I see you are admiring the carpentry on the ceiling, elf! Have a taste for architecture, do ye? Don't get me wrong, those are some good beams, as sturdy as them flimsy trees get, but you should see the masonry in the ceilings of a dwarven citadel! Not that an elf like you would have an easy time being admitted inside one. Name's Fargrim, by the way."
Fargrim holds out his hand and gets a bit annoyed at the fact that the elf was clearly not paying much attention to his introduction. Apparently not many social types in the Hall of Great Valor today... or maybe this one is just aloof. He's an elf, after all. "Hello? My name's Fargrim, I said!"
