My thought on leveling up is that hit points, extra attacks, feats and such start immediately and the new spells come after a long rest. So you can up to level 5 then send me a copy of the PC to keep up. You will have everything but the new spells right now.
I am assuming during this conversation you are taking a short rest. Spend some hit die to heal and such.

OOC: So, if Alex goes on a griffon and Khalad stays, that makes 6 people and 2 griffons. Do we want to try overloading them, or should a couple of us approach on foot/horseback to make sure the fliers stay mobile enough to dodge a potential attack? Delrin could probably manage either way.
Delrin conceals a small shudder at the thought of having to continue the griffon riding adventures, but accepts that it may be the best way to deal with this problem. He starts gathering up his spent arrows on the ground when he notices Randir still kicking around the body of the Orog he felled.
Delrin approaches Randir and says (Translated from Elven) "Whoa there! I think you've managed to fell it already! Well done, Randir my friend. Well done. Just try to stay safer from now on, okay?" While he doesn't expect Randir to understand what he's saying to any significant level, he does pet Randir's head and slip the horse a carrot in approval, trusting that to get the bulk of the message across.
Hit Die: Only spending 1d10. Rolled a 6, so that's already more than the damage he had.

Malik will spend 2 HD to heal 11 points back up.
The problem with us taking 6 is are we really going to ditch all the horses and wagon? I guess if we're not gone super long no big deal?
For leveling: do we gain the spell slots now or no? If not then Oloric is pretty worn down. If so he has some new slots for another fight no problem.

He receives the slots, but if he is taking a new spell he needs to rest to gain it.

Izzy finishes collecting his arrows and swearing under his breath, and turns to the group.
"OK, first thing I think we need to do is a quick aerial scout run. Bird-beard, you wanna take Del up and do a run around the monastery, see what it looks like from topside? Are they sending more troops out? Are they barricading themselves in? Is there anybody still there? Is there a good place for us to land and infiltrate from? The rest of us should patch ourselves up and wait for info before we decide what to do. In the meantime, Princess should grab the other griffon and head back to base to let them know what's up. If I know them, that'll probably end up as yet another day-long palaver at the very least, but if they suffer an unexpected attack of competence and send you back with orders within a reasonable amount of time then we'll try and wait at least five hours to head in to give you time to get there and back. Unless there's an opportunity at the monastery that we can't pass up, that is. Sound good to everybody?"

Izzy notes all of his arrows are in perfect shape, just a little cold from the snow they all landed in. Khalad and Delrin each take Potter and Granger on a high Ariel circle of the Monastery. The note that the side of the complex closest to the Hammer Mountain is covered in snow. The largest central building has a half dozen orcs and a trio of wolves digging in the snow. They are the only forces you see. As Delrin turns to move back away he sees a sight that makes his rub his eyes and look again in disbelief. A Direwolf leaps from a second story window of the main building with a human riding on his back. The human is a male who is without shoes or shirt in the snow. His body is covered in cuts and bruises. They land in the snow and begin to race to the main gate.

OOC: Before flying up, could Khalad have told Delrin a few basic command words for the griffon, or at least have written a few down with their translations? Delrin doesn't speak Dwarvish, but it shares a script with Goblin, which he does speak, so he could probably utilize written instructions fairly well.
IC: Delrin quietly mutters to himself "I swear, when I was younger, this would've seemed strange to me." He then looks to Khalad and says "You've got the divine healing hands, so you'll be best equipped to help the injured one. See if you can patch them up and get them out of here. I'll cover you from above to keep the hostiles from disturbing you."
If Khalad complies, Delrin tries to direct Granger to slowly circle the area, allowing him the freedom to draw his bow and hold ready to fire if anything approaches the escapees.
Animal Handling: 12, hopefully enough to direct a well trained beast.
Reserved Attack: 23 for 6 damage. The Extra Attack is a 20 for 10 damage. I don't know what he's shooting at, so if the original attack generates Extra Successes, the bonus attacks will be a 18 for 8 damage and a 24 for 6 damage.

Khalad teaches the group some command words.
Delrin is not sure if Khalad understands but as he sees the Dire Wolf and Human land he calls the name, "Rhal! He's alive." and dives down.
Delrin fires on one orc digging in the snow. His arrow sinks into his back. The Orc turns to find the second arrow strikes the center of his forehead. The Orc falls into the snow. The rest of the orc race to the cover of the builds and the wolves bark and seeing the Dire Wolf land charge at him and the human, Rhal.

Initiative (if needed): 19.
Delrin sighs and thinks to himself "Yes, Khalad, please scream loudly and give away the escapees' position. I'm so glad you know how to conduct a proper rescue for a stealth/recon mission. So subtle. How have I ever survived for so long without you?" In spite of his annoyance, his mind stays focused on shooting down the wolves that didn't have the good sense to follow their riders...mostly. The irritation seems to spur him on, as he fires off 4 arrows in as many seconds, taking down all the wolves, but as he lines up one more shot, his annoyance proves to be distracting enough for things to go very, very wrong...
Attack: 28! Do we do Triple Extra Successes? Damage is 11, so one wolf down. 2nd attack is a crit (29), so 14 damage, and another dead wolf. 1st extra is a 23, so 8 damage. 2nd extra is a 15, so 9 damage and the wolves are gone. 3rd extra at a retreating orc (if that's allowed) is a crit fail (10). Well, the rolls had to balance out eventually. At least he got to shoot off a decent hail of arrows before things went horribly wrong.

Izzy watches Del and Khalad swooping and attacking off in the distance and turns to the rest of the group. "I said 'aerial scouting mission', didn't I? I was pretty sure I said 'aerial scouting mission', I don't remember saying 'aerial assault mission', like, at ALL. Did I say 'aerial assault mission' by mistake?" He starts rubbing his temples. "You guys are gonna give me a headache..."

Well, his bow may be nonfunctional, but the orcs don't need to know that. Delrin grabs the two pieces of his bowstring and holds them together, trying his best to dissuade any orcs from trying to call his bluff. He calls out "Hurry up Khalad! We don't have long until they come back!"
Deception: 17.

The Wolves figure out this is not a time to stay in the open the remaining rush to hide under the eaves of the buildings.
As the Dire Wolf begins to race forward a Griffon lands in the courtyard before the gate. On the griffon is an armored dwarf whose is built as broad of shoulder as he is tall. He calls to the pair,"Rhal, Your alive boy. Quickly get aboard mi girl and let's get you free of here."
Rhal knows the dwarf to be the leader of the Griffon riders. He is as surprised to see Khalad alive as the dwarf was to see him.

“If only just!” Rhal responded to the dwarf then patted his temporary dire wolf mount, “Tleyar! This is our ride! You can change back now!”
If the dire wolf slowed down Rhal would hop off and immediately be shocked by the coldness of the snow on his bare feet before moving to get on the griffon. Then realize that perhaps he should have grabbed a shirt and sandals at the very least before making their retreat, but they were in a hurry.

The dire wolf growled in acknowledgement, and after Rhal got off started to rapidly shrink and change shape. Fur retracted, muzzle shortened and fangs dulled as the huge dire wolf became a thin elf in the span of a split second. The elf had bright red hair and was wearing green robes with a totem in the shape of a sprite hanging around the neck, but telling its gender was practically impossible. The flat chest seemed to indicate male, but the facial features were somewhat effeminate. "Well, that was quite exciting." they said with a smile, wiping off a mess of blood from the mouth. "Pleased to meet you, my name is Tleyar. I was also a captive of the gnomes."
