Fargrim pontificates on the monastery as you travel the 10 miles from Overlook to the Elsir River and then take it west into the mountains. "The Monastery was constructed centuries ago to house the most elite of Moradin's dedicates. The name the Sundered Chain is to preserve the memory of the hardships endured at the hands of the Dragon masters and their giant minions. It trains initiates in special fighting techniques used against the dragon and giant. It was built in the mountains below the Hammer to provide a natural home for the griffons the Monastery train and ride into battle." Fargrim beams with pride."For generations it has been the symbol of dwarven perseverance and excellence." As you move into the mountains you understand why the mountain they built the Monastery on was named the Hammer. The great peak resembles a down turned hammer. You watch large birdlike creatures circle the peaks for your travel along the long and winding road to the Monastery. A half hour from raching the high walls of the Monastery you can see 3 larger campfires outside the walls. Three griffons break from circling the Hammer and begin to swoop toward you. "Look at them. Magnificent beasts and the ingenuity of the dwarven harness used to ride them is legendary. Hum, They don't seem to have their riders." Fragrim looks perplexed as the Griffons screech at the party and extend claws.

"Called it! Shrieking death from the skies! You guys are all my witnesses, assuming any of us survive..." Izzy whips out his shortbow. "So, sparkleprincess, any idea who that is camped out in front of Hammertown?" he remarks to Alex.
[Izzy init: 9; Fargrim init: 1. Awesome.]

Delrin's Initiative: 18.
Delrin looks to Fargrim. "Since you seem to know so much about them, do you know how to tell them we're friendly? They could have been ordered to attack whatever groups are camping outside, and could be confusing us with those hostiles."
Notably, Delrin hasn't drawn his bow yet, but he has pulled his rope and grappling hook into his hand. He'll try to see if he can spot their harnesses. If the griffons are still harnessed, they could try using those to ground the beasts.
Perception: 12. I have a feeling that all he can confirm is that the griffons are griffons.

Delrin's perception showed him they are Griffons and are flying. Someone else could try to get a little more info with a perception or nature check.

Alexandria followed more or less in silence, atop her steed but without her retainers. Everything she had difficulty carrying on her own was on her horse, and her helmet kept her face covered. ((Initiative: 11 + 1 = 12)) She did attempt to consult her knowledge of the area. ((There does not appear to be a local. She is proficient in history. ((Knowledge (History): 15 + 2 = 17 or just a flat 15 if it's a straight intelligence check.))

Delrin explains "I don't think the town would much appreciate us dispatching their griffons, renegade or not, so I'll try to see if I can reel one in and get it back under control. I wouldn't mind aid from a few stronger pairs of hands either."
He'll hold his action until the beasts are closer to throwing distance.

Delrin holds his actions and the Griffons dive toward the wagon. You believe they are heading toward the mules or possibly Fargrim. The mules are harnessed into the wagon and pretty much sitting ducks for the Griffons.
Oloric, Alexandria and Delrin are the only ones who can do anything before the Griffons. Last chance before they eat your mules or your Dwarf.
Alexandria knows the Griffon Riders of the Hammer are legendary. They helped turn the tide of war against the dragons long ago. She also knows Griffons are known for a love of horse meat.

Oloric blurts a short cantrip and a small pony appears in front of the other horses (minor cantrip). Hoping the pony might detract them from the real horses, he adds "I bet we'll be pulling that wagon ourselves shortly! Hope someone as a good plan here! "

"Bring the wagoned horses into the alcove." Alexandria suggested. "They will be far too large for the Griffons to grab and ascend after getting in there. That is just my pence, though." She gently patted Invincible's neck ((Handle Animal 14 + 2 = 16)) and passively filtered him towards the left with her knees as she drew her shield ((Acrobatics 13 + 3 = 16)) Her idea seemed a lot more sane in comparison to what she was doing, now standing atop her white charger, keeping a hand free. She had every intention of drawing a griffon close to her horse and making it pay quite dearly.
((OOC: Just verifying that guidance takes place as part of the move action, right? Gonna have Alex stow her attack/reaction thing to try to latch onto one of em. Take that bad boy out Shadow of the Collossus style. Sure, she could just go with more traditional stuff, but I'm feeling lucky after the damned critstorm in Vehemence.))

The first griffon dives at the image of the small horse between the wagon and the rear line of horses. He screeches in surprise as he passes through nothing. The other 2 Griffons arc up away from the party and back into the sky. You do notice you can see their ribs and they don't look healthy.
OOC: One Griffon is briefly between the wagon and the horses you may attack or perform an action. A Huge creature is probably pretty average (DC8) to grab or grapple but the swooping would make it a disadvantage.
The other two swoop within 50' of the party.

Malik will try and grapple the one and hold it down. (16 and 18 so use 16).
