One griffon lands beside the last orc by Khalad and screeches at the beast. The Orog turns toward the griffon as the second dives down grabs his shoulders and thrusts upward. The Orog tries to strike the griffon with sword and shield but the griffon suddenly just tosses the Orog. He arcs through the air flying through the sky, smashing off the cliff, and bouncing onto the ground to lay dead.
2 Orog's left on the Western front.
Init: Oloric 22, Griffons 19, Delrin 16, Soldiers 11, Alex 10, Malik 6, Fargrim 5, Izzy 4, Khalad 3

As the last of their Orogs flies off into the cliffs, Delrin briefly follows it with his eyes and quietly grumbles "Well, there goes a free suit of plate. Oh well."
He then starts moving towards the two remaining Orogs, taking a shot on the one on the right (what was described as right by the group attacking it, not right according to Delrin's perspective) and landing a true, if somewhat frail, strike.
Attack: 20 for 6 damage. Another scratch on it, I guess.
Randir loops around for another charge, but it seems that the Orog saw it coming this time, since it easily dodges the strike even though it's encumbered by the plate mail and shield. Naturally, the horse is in a bit of a huff about that, but at least he tried.
Attack: 7. Not even close.

The Orog grunt something in orcish quickly and one rushes to Randir and grabs his reins leaping into his saddle. (Randir needs to make a DC8 Wis roll to not follow the Orog's commands).
The second races around the large shell to a fleeing horse and grabs for the reins. The Orog misses the reins slipping through his hands.
(Both of these can be modified by Malic taking an AofO against each Orog.)
Alex moves back toward the third Griffon and speaks in dwarven."We need you friend Griffon." She lays hands upon it again. The griffon stands testing it's wings."Now being a horse's worst nightmare if either of the Orogs try to ride this way scare the beast." (Griffon redies to intimidate horses.)

Randir raises a high whinny and bucks against the Orog's commands, attempting to keep the nasty man off his back.
Anti-Ride Check: 10.
OOC: It isn't an issue this time, but for future reference, since Delrin has exclusively been commanding Randir in Elvish, specifically since I foresaw something like this occurring eventually, would he get advantage to resist commands that aren't in Elvish, like the griffons do with Dwarven?

Malik misses with his attack of opportunity (attack: 11)
After the Orogs make a break for it Conn and Malik charge the Orog who ran towards an empty horse. Conn's charge hits the Orog with force as the warhorse connects solidly. He follows up with another attack to ensure the poor thing is truly dead.
(Conn attack: 19 damage: 10 and Orog makes DC 13 save to avoid being knocked prone. If prone Conn hits again attack' 22 for 5 damage)
Maliks swing misses the Orog completely.
(Attack: 15, 18 I'd he got advantage but still not a hit)

Fargrim smiles grimly and directs the glowing mace towards the orc near Randir, muttering "Have a mace and a smile, ye great thug..."
[Spirit Weapon Attack roll total: 22, damage total: 9; Sacred Flame Dex save DC 13 or take 1 radiant]
Izzy fires his bow one last time, apparently at a nearby bird that only he can see, and then hurls the bow at the fracas and screams something about "quitting adventuring and becoming a street sweeper".
[Pathetic shortbow attack roll total: 8]

Con tramples the Orog smashing his skull to a red pulpy mass. Malik's attack swing through the space the dead Orog once was.
The last Orog actually has an intelligence most Orc's lack and his eyes show something you never see in an orc, Fear. He tries to conherse the horse into movement as he hears the call from Fargrim. He looks to the dwarf as the spirit weapon swings in from behind leaving a large dent in the back of his helmet. The helmet splits and falls in two as the Orog slumps off the horse dead.
You stand in a valley of death and are victorious. It takes your minds a moment to realize that you survived an Orc hordes attack.
(I will post XP before you move on. You did destroy 3 Gnome Illusionists, 3 Orog Champions, 36 Orog Soldiers, 24 Orc Scouts and 24 Wolves. Not a bad day at the office.)

Delrin stands for a moment panting, then turns back to Khalad, explaining "I wasn't lying when I told you that 'conquering insurmountable odds has become somewhat typical' for us. Now, do you have any knowledge of their remaining numbers, or the possibility of any other survivors? You first said there were 100 orcs in the monastery, but how sure were you of that number? If you were very sure, then we've already leveled over half their forces. Perhaps a surrender could be coerced."
After he gets an answer, Delrin will attempt to look back at the keep to see if there are any more forces incoming, or if any sort of disturbance is occurring to suggest there could be more trouble afoot.
Perception: 20.

Khalad wipes his ax on a orc's fur as he speaks,"I didn't have time to make a good count. We had 30 griffon riders and 2 dozen griffons along with 40 monks. We left a sizable pile of orcs ourselves. We could scout the Monastery on griffon back to know more. Orcs are not know for their cunning."
If you loot (You also need to gather your mounts)
You have a dozen spears, 30 javelins, 12 wolves you can find and skin.
The Blacksteel Shadowfell arms and armor are not worth the encumbrance.
You do find the Champion's sword was magical in nature. The great sword is lighter than expected with a small glow (+1 Greatsword). Khalad explains the blade was the Hand of Justice. It was used by the Master of the Griffons to bring Moradin's Justice.
The champion also has a spiked chain hanging from his belt. It is also showing arcane power. Khalad looks with deep sadness. This is the weapon of the Grandmaster of the Sundered Chain. She like the monks of the Monastery perfect combat with the chain to honor the dwarves who broke the chains of Dragon oppression.
The Gnome has a bag. You open it to find the inside is inky blackness. Even when you shine a light you are unable to see the inside or the bottom of the bag.

Malik allows Conn his victory walk through the area. You watch as the warhorse begins to scour the dead and plop his hooves upon their heads ensuring no survivors reawaken to surprise us.
As he wanders, the Paladin remarks, "We should gather our horses and tend to them first. This uneven ground could end us with a lame horse if we don't be careful. Should we report our findings now? The pass isn't very passable so that should hold them off for now. Or should we check the monastery? I'm guessing it's not doable without taking the griffons. That hasn't worked out so well yet!"

Oloric merges from 3 to 1 and looks towards the monastery.
"I'm for finding and sealing whatever path these smelly orcs came from now. The council will likely be like any other and take forever to do anything. Plus these orcs had shadowfell gear. Perhaps there's a path to the mysterious stranger we've heard about beneath it?"

Khalad listens his brow furrowed,"Maybe we can do both. If there are any left alive in the Monastery I would not feel well leaving them to the orcs while we run. Someone does need to survive to return to Outlook with news of this attack. Lady Alexandria seems able to stay mounted on a griffon long enough to get back. If she would take my still wounded Weasley with her to Overlook, then Potter and Granger could fly some of us over the Monastery." He continues to think a difficult proposition for the dwarf."The Orcs came through the lower caverns from the vents. Who knows how many could be down there."
Oloric remembers his lady friend Jen from the Farstriders, that he enjoyed a night with at Overlook, spoke of leaving for the vents in the morning.
OOC: The Griffons can easily fly 2 and with encumbrance carry 3 for a short period of time. You do have a wagon and horses as well. From what you saw earlier there is a winding small clear trail through the avalanche. From ground level it would be more like a maze that could lead off to dead ends along the way. The Hammer Peak rising above does help making sure your generally going the right direction in the mounds of snow, ice, and rock. The Monastery is normally four minutes by horse and wagon away but may take longer if follow the wrong path. Flying takes 1 minute and you can not get lost. You could send Alex back by horse for an 8 hour trip or by Griffon for a 2 hour trip to Overlook.
