Oloric is able to make it back up.
...was waiting on the others at this point

OK, so we've got three heavily armored units of well-disciplined orcs headed for us, turtled up enough to shrug off missile fire and any spells we can throw. There's what, five of us? And a few half-starved griffons? I'm thinking we hit the bricks, kids. This is a total party wipe waiting to happen, and we need to tell our employers that their super-secure monastery got curb-stomped.

Really? A few orcs? Oloric can web them and burn them once they are in range allowing us to finish the remnants with ranged.

OOC: They're pretty unassailable when it comes to elemental spells and arrows, but what about force spells and boulders? If we had the griffins pick up large pieces of debris and toss it at the orcs, they'd be sitting ducks. Same thing with any force spell that'd knock them through their shields, right? Then, once they've been knocked around and dispersed, we can down them with our more typical MO, right?

Why wouldn't elemental spells work? I figure web them and light it on fire. It does damage unless they escape. The ones in middle are screwed and they have to disperse opening up ranged assault? Assuming the web damage doesn't take a lot of them out.

If you abandon the wagon and horses you could travel a short distance on the griffons. Or you could try to out distance the orcs on horseback. If you use the wagon they will certainly catch you. The first group is passing through the loan gap in the mass of snow you dropped. You have not tried to attack them yet. If you make a perception check you can gain more information of the first of the three groups.

Khalad looks at the fellow paladin with a look of anger at mention of "Half Starved" Griffons. He then looks away to the orcs marching and down to the ground and growls,"He speaks true. We can not defeat 3 groups of disciplined warriors. We need to find how they entered the Monastery and surprised the mighty Dwarven Hammers. We also can not tell bring any information if we are dead." He looks back at the shield wall,"Never seem Orcs work with such discipline. All three groups are in perfect formation moving in coordinated effort. Even dwarven shield-men would not march with such perfection."

Malik remarks, "It sounds like we aren't ready for a fight this day. Let us be off before someone wets their armor." He will turn Conn around and gather any other horses not ridden (assuming others stay on the griffons) and ride off unless someone else thinks differently.
"At least we will be rid of that foolish wagon for good!"
Oloric focuses on the first group not believing the threat can be this great while he sits behind Khalad. "Sounds like its time to find safer ground and perhaps a proper snack for these flying horses sor dwarf!"
(10 perception. Oh well)

Oloric notes that there is snow on the ground, orcs coming toward them, and mountains.

[Izzy's Perception check total: 19, Fargrim's Perception check total: 22]
Izzy and Fargrim are gonna horse-back it; neither of them are particularly interested in trying out the griffon expressway to falling damage.

Izzy notes all three groups seem to be exactly the same number of shields per side moving and swaying the same pattern.
Fargrim notes that the first and third group are not leaving a trail of footprints in the snow behind them.

Izzy and Fargrim look at each other and then, simultaneously, "Heeeeyyyyy, wait a minute..." Then Izzy looks up at Olly and says "On second thought, Olly, what've you got for blasto, right now?"
[How many does it look like are in that group?]

Oloric has web and burning hands and thunderwave. Web the only real ranged spell.

"OK, new plan! We wait until that second batch gets up to the mouth of the canyon, past the open space. Olly does a flyby and hits them with Thunderwave from behind, to break up the shield wall, and knock them towards us. Once the shield wall breaks, the rest of us hit them with ranged attacks. Try and tag the caster first; they've gotta have one in there somewhere. Then Olly hits them with a Web to lock them down, and then we finish them off. Try and keep at least one alive for questioning. That work for everybody?" Izzy looks for a convenient alcove to hide in that's got a good outlook on the mouth of the canyon. Is there something like that up the walls a bit? With the spider-ring's advantage schtick, he should be able to get up the walls about thirty feet or so without too much trouble.
