Brindol is not the place it was when you arrived. You leave with a heroes parade and the blessings of all the church leaders absent the Church of Grithstane of course. Traveling by the gateway to Rivenroar saves you half a days ride and allows you to receive another round of thanks. Each of you enjoy a pouch and several bags on your mounts filled with 500gp (minus what you spent) from the treasury of Brindol in thanks for you work.
The Dawn Way has a few small towns and inns along the way to make your travel comfortable. After passing the skull gorge the Old North Road then the Dwarfroad the skirts the north edge of the Wyvernspur has no such accommodations. The travel through the Westdeep forest is the same. Old Den on the other side of the forest in the first dwarven town you find. It's square buildings, orderly grid system layout, and perfect sameness is unmistakably dwarven. It's taverns and inns are filled with adventures and mercenaries on their way to Overlook. You stop at the Mandrigel Boarding House and find they seem to be doing extra cleaning. When you inquire way they explain they had a Hobgoblin mercenary unit stay with them 3 nights ago and it takes a little extra to get the smell out.
Leaving Old Den you see the Stonehome Mountains rising before you. They make the Wyvernspur look like hills in comparison. The land is small organized farms, grasslands, and manicured forests. The area is a hilly one and you hear the clash of steel and horses cries ahead before you can see anything. As the first of you crest the hill you see a chaotic scene below. What looks to be small farm and inn is surrounded by hunched armored figures. The figures are tearing at storm shutters, doors, and stonewalls trying to find a way into the farmhouse/inn.
There look to be at least 3 dozen, they are 200 yards from you on the crest of the next hill. Farmland fill that space with low soy beans, carrots, and cabbage patches.

What kind of cover is there, closer to the action? Is it all cleared farmland and fields with low-lying crops, or are there any small groves of trees or sheds or anything to hide behind and observe/snipe from? About how big do the hunched armored figures look, and what kind of armor is it? Crap orcish/gnollish armor, quality hobgoblin armor, weird space armor?

Izzy bought himself a riding horse, and named it "Y'Big Jerk". Essentially so's he can say things like "Stop that, y'big jerk!" and it'll know who he's talking to. He and Fargrim also split the cost of a wagon and four mules to carry the prospective loot in. Fargrim's not real comfortable on critterback; he says he likes something solid under him, and while Izzy's happy to ride during the day, he likes being able to sleep in the wagon at night.

OOC: Wait, to clarify, did you say that EACH of us is carrying 500gp? If so, that horse is definitely going to be a warhorse equipped with a military saddle, a bit and bridle, and the required feed for the trip, plus I'll have more than enough gold left over to silver my rapier too, if somebody in town can do that. If it's 500gp for the group of us, it's just a riding horse and I'm broke. Also, did we get any XP for the challenge fight?
Blackarrow purchases a horse that he names Randir, meaning Wanderer to those fluent in the elven tongue (it took me WAY too long to find a Sindarin to English dictionary, and for a word that I could've derived from Gandalf's Elvish name anyways!).
Recognizing that he can't traipse about in a hood and mask and go only by a title when travelling to a new city, once the party is far enough away from Brindol he removes his mask and hood, revealing his dark blonde shoulder-length hair and matching colored trimmed beard. "I can't expect to continue the Blackarrow persona without drawing far more attention than we can afford, so I think it's about time I start going by my real name. I'm known as Delrin Reltea, and I'm glad that I can finally give you all a proper introduction."
OOC: And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming, "When Hunched Figures Attack."
Delrin slows Randir to a stop once he gets close enough to see any details, and he attempts to study both the species and gear of the attackers as well as whether he can see anyone inside of the inn.
Perception: 20!

Yes, You each have 500 gp - purchases - what you spent over the week off. Either you or I can roll on the off time chart in the DMG and figure out what you did with your off time. Izzy found an over-sized riding horse who lives up to his name. He only really follows orders if he knows it will end with an apple. Fargrim is able to purchase 4 solid mules and a wagon from Lord Noel on the cheap. The wagon includes a long narrow secret compartment between the 2 axis under the wagon. Currently within the compartment is a 100 doses of goblin swing potions. Oloric finds a mare with patches of tan and gold. They look almost like pieces of gold scattered along her hide. Malik finds that Conn took a liking to him. Warden Derrius sells the large black warhorse to Malik. Randir is fully equipped and Reltea can raise his silver rapier to the sky as he charges to attack.

OOC: Tactical notes- I don't like the idea of charging in under fire from those two squads of archers that have this place bracketed. I think we might want to try and peel off to the right and take out that squad and their warchief, first. [There's two warchiefs on the map. Is that accurate?] If we can get up on them quick enough and hit them hard enough, we might be able to take them out before the rest notice anything. And it'll clear out one side so's folks inside the buildings can make a break for it if they have to. It's also blocked off enough that most of the other orcs won't be able to see what's going on, especially if it happens fast enough. If that works out, then we can see what's still going on before we rush in.

One warchief and you may enter the map on any side. If from the south that is the fastest path. It is one stealth check and will arrive this round. Approaching from east or west tskes 2 stealth checks and 2 rounds. Going all the way north would be 3 rounds and checks. Since you are outside you could do nature instead of stealth. Being on horseback is a disadvantage but if on foot double the time.
