[OOC: We probably don't want to split the party this far away from the keep. My vote is take the wagon along the high road, and see how it looks closer up. Maybe pause when we get to that third bridge, just before the dogleg turn to the last bridge and the drawbridge, and see what the terrain looks like down below the keep. We might want to at least look at that land bridge as an option into the keep, or as a potential back way out if we get into trouble in there.]

OOC: Splitting the party's always dicey, but maybe we could set up a couple trap-testers? If we're worried one of the bridges may collapse or do something else nasty, we could use our rope to rig a couple people to the wagon and have those people test each bridge first, and then have them set up the rigging to something sturdy and have the wagon follow. That way, if the worst comes to pass and a person or the wagon falls, we either have most of the party safe on one side who can pull the individuals up, or a couple people safe on the other side with rope the others could use to climb up. It'd be a bit slower than just charging, and there'd be no saving the wagon or horses if they fall, but there's no risk of death by gravity for us. I know it definitely sounds weird, really, REALLY weird, but it should be safe.

You begin across the first bridge and note that it is strong dwarven work. As you cross the second bridge about 600 yards from the Keep you see some shorter creatures moving on the gatehouse towers. A strange trumpet screeches and from the arm of a catapult flares up a stone launching. It lands nowhere near your group plunking into the rapid river below. The second tower you a catapult arm jerk up snap in two and flip and spin as it falls to the ground below the tower it's stone making it 10 yards to plunk into the moat. You hear screams and screeches from the towers. 4 Wolf Riders race out of the gatehouse down the bridge and toward your group. They cover about 100 yards and are 500 yards form you.

Malik: 2
Oloric: 9
Are spell slots recovered? It wasn't clear but it seemed you were saying the ride after was restful. No huge deal but determines how both use spells if they are not at full

[Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. How are we set for longbow action; anybody besides Blackarrow? My hand crossbow tops out at 120 feet. We can at least whittle them down a bit before they get to us.]
[Izzy's at 11.]
Izzy loads his hand crossbow and looks around. "So, do we wanna try and do a full frontal assault, or fake a run-for-it, and come around the side?"

[Oloric's max spell is also 120'. Malik has no long range action and no dex bonus so he would really suck with archery even if he had a bow. Are we sure we want to attack them at range anyways? It is possible they may be willing to parlay? I suppose we have a whole lot of rounds to see what they do before they are here also. It's 600' so 200 yards before Longbow range.]

Yes you have been chilling on cart for a full rest. You left Brindol early and it is now early evening. It is summer so you have 4 hours of light.

Will you be moving toward them. Charging at them. Looking at their charge and hearing thier howls of rage and bloodlust I'm not sure they look ready to talk. You can see some jumpy little goblins are trying to reload the ancient catapult. The line breaks to draw it back and the arm swings back up crushing one of the goblins and throwing his smashed body off the tower.
Looking for a place to move Izzy sees the sides of the trail drop on both sides. He would need to leave his mount and climb down the side to get to the forest or rapids below.

"...well, we may not have to worry about the ones in the tower; they're doing a lot of our work for us..." Izzy looks at Blackarrow. "You wanna thin the wolf-boys out a bit before they get to us?" Then he walks his horse about 15 feet ahead of the group and waits for them to get in range.
[How are the wolf-riders armed? Melee only?]

They have 3 shortbows and one with a skull and feather covered staff. So three warriors and a shaman.

Malik will move forward on his warhorse slightly ahead of Izzy, "It appears their intent is clear. I will charge them when they are closer but we should stay in range for assistance from any archers/spells so others can assist. We may have to weather an arrow or two before they get closer. Stand behind me for cover. My faith will shield me as best it can."
Malik prays to Magnus "Grant me protection so that I can reap vengeance upon my enemies!" [Casting Shield of Faith for +2 AC on his action and drawing his axes to prepare for the onslaught]
Knowing there aren't enough horses for them all Malik states, "Fargrim, Hraken, Oloric, I offer you a ride if you would care to join me in my charge" [Blackarrow and Paelius have horses i'm assuming]
Malik awaits the right timing to charge as the foes come closer.
Oloric declines Malik's offer "I will stay close to the Wagon and provide spell support as best I can". He will take cover until the others move towards the group and then will move as close as necessary to get spells off.

Hraken scowls at the incompetency of the goblins on the wall and the small size of their strike force. If the Baroness of Rivenroar had hobgoblins in her service, why was this keep being defended by the likes of these lowly and stupid creatures. Had they been deceived? Nevertheless Hraken was ready for the fight and, unslining his crossbow, takes aim at one of the approaching riders. Edit: I was mistaken at the distance, so cancel the ready action. Mechanics: Initiative: 19 Hraken takes the Ready action for this round. His reaction will trigger when one of the riders comes within 400ft to fire his crossbow. (Attack: 10 & 19 disadvantage) so will probably miss. (damage: 12 piercing) OOC:

If they move 100' per round They will be within my range at the end of their turn, hence my ready action.

Hraken remembers Morrik explained that most hobgoblins refused to enter the lich's domain and are at the foothills south of the mountains you stand in. The Red Hand must be crazy or desperate to enter Rivenroar.

He said they are 500 YARDS away. So that is 1500 feet. It's still plenty of range before anyone can hit anyone...Wolves have 40' movement so 80' per round.
