Hraken growls remembering why he prefers to travel alone. He moves to the side of the wagon bringing the bugs within view. He fires his crossbow at the closest creature, (26 crit) sinking the quarrel deep into a crack on its carapace (20 piercing)
Ooc: will finish my x-success later

Oloric misses and moves to the wagon reins to control the wagon.
Hraken levels his crossbow and pins the Kruthik to the cliff side killing the bloodied insect.
Fargrim blasts the other Kruthik with his Blunderbuss point blank. The creature is bleeding from a dozen holes from the shot but still stands.
Paelius follows freezing and slowing the creature with his ray of frost.
The Adult Kruthik is frozen to the wall when arrows, bolts, axes, and arcane compete for who will land the killing blow. The beast falls to the ground behind the wagon and the group is left on the trail looking at 5 Kruthik sleeping in cut little balls. (Slaughter Rule in Invoked)
Hraken knows that the poison sack and glands of the Kruthik may be sold to alchemist and herbalists for a few gold pieces. Easy nature check (5) to remove without poisoning yourself.

Izzy looks down at his hand crossbow in disgust. "Y'know, if I hadn't taken this off a dead guy, I'd go ask for my money back..."

Malik will ensure the other sleeping bug creatures are laid to rest.
"Perhaps they had something in the crevacce nearby? We should at least search the corpse I saw in the crevacce. He was not as lucky as us but it seems odd one body traveling in these parts." He will search the body and area briefly before being ready to continue their quesr. (Unless he discovers something)
Assuming there is time to short rest then Oloric will use HD to restore his remaining 7 HPs he lost. Only 1 HD is required.

The sword of the old victim is broken and his pack and goods are long rotten or destroyed by scavengers. He does have a few (10) gold crowns and some (46) copper pennies on the ground at his feet. His scale mail is what first caught Malik's eye. It is dirty but looks undamaged. The straps and ties are still in good working order. It seems a fine piece of armor that when the rest of his clothing and packs have been chewed up is looking in perfect condition if cleaned.

Hraken bends low over the ugly insects and with a few quick motions (Nature 14), removes some dark sacks from behind their jaws. "Poison" he says looking at Malik, "You're are lucky. From now on, stay on the path, and do not look into any dark holes. These mountains are dangerous."

Taking the coin and removing the armour, Malik agrees "At least these won't hurt any future travelers." Putting the armour on the wagon he re mounts Connan ,"Let us be off again."

Holding the armor it feels lighter than scale male should and is decorated in scales that remind you of Wordwise scales but hard like a strong steel.

Malik will note to the others, "It appears this armour is of a somewhat unique quality if anyone can make use of it. Please feel free. I prefer heavier built style myself. If not it may be useful to someone else for some coin if need be."

If someone places it on it is +2 scale male of movement. It does not lower regular movement or impeed skill checks. Once daily player may double move in a round.

The next hours are spent on the trail trying to follow Hraken's guide. The path begins to be continued and points with arching stone bridges over the rapids below. The roar of the river's course becomes a constant background noise. Finally you see the Keep of Rivenroar rising out of the mountains peak.
From the square geometric solid efficient design Fargrim can tell this was dwarven design if not dwarven built. On either side of the main gates are openings that the river flows out of pooling into a moat and then falling into a waterfall and the rapids that pour down the mountainside. Parts of the Keep have been shattered in some long ago battle and flora have overtaken the ruins.
An old drawbridge is down before the front gate that is opened. You still have about a half hours march up the path to the drawbridge.

Izzy's watching for guard posts, watchers, ambush points, any of that sort of thing. [Perception total: 15. Ugh, better than a 6, I guess...] What kind of shape is that drawbridge in? Does it looks rotted out, or in good repair?

The drawbridge itself is in good repair. It looks like the chains are broken off and it can not be pulled up. You don't see movement on the tops of the towers that means their are no guards or the guards are really short. The gate house has a square tower on either side. The Keep itself melds into the side of the mountain and there are three gatehouses. The one in the middle has the drawbridge down. The two on the sides do not. The moat and twin branches of the river flow quickly and would be difficult to swim or row across without being pulled down the waterfall and rapids.

"Ookay, then, who wants to be the goat?" Izzy looks back at everybody else. "...because this is the first place I'd put a deathtrap, if this were my gig. 'Not it', by the way."
