Oloric starts the conversation "We are not town representatives but mercenaries who are trying to help resolve these confrontations. Our group is going to scout the camps only to help the town understand the threat. We are not beholden to the town YET and you could be our scout back and help negotiations with you leaders. Does this sound amenable?
The town may not let you leave but we will. I suggest taking it as we have a few in our party who do not deal so well with goblins who don't cooperate. I doubt if I fail to convince you that you want to see how they negotiate. A panther man and a knight with axes... Why don't you work with us?"

OOC: I'm sorry, this weekend was hectic, had to drive 600 miles since friday night, and it looks like I missed a lot. I just caught up with the reading. I'll assume Fargrim is quietly following the group to the stockade, even though he's not keen on the idea of using violence to extract information from the hobgoblin. Hopefully, with Oloric's clever approach, it'll not come to that.

Morrik looks to Oloric, "I would guide you but would then leave. Sinruth will not negotiate and will tolorate my prescence. If I walk out of this city with you I will guide you then go west to find another mercenary company."
"We're not letting you go," Nodwick states.
"Shut up Noddy," Red barks,"Everything is negotiable for the greater good."
"When I walk through those gates and my bounds are unleashed then I will talk."

Fargrim has been Mark the barbarian standing in the corner. He is with the group.

[We...might want to establish some parameters for our interrogation, here. Does Wordwise have any Charm-type magic available? How's the town council gonna deal with us bargaining the release of a hobgoblin that was part of an invasion that killed a couple dozen town guards and an as-yet-undetermined number of citizens? For that matter, how comfortable are our goblin-slayer compatriots with that sort of thing? At least a couple of us have I HATE GOBLINS FOREVER written in bold on their character sheets. I'd just like to make sure we're not overstepping our authority here, and also not maybe not pressing the giant panther-dude and the heavily armored axe-man's Must Kill Everyone buttons.
So, what can we offer, and how far are we prepared to go? Warden Stick-up-his-butt wants us to "stay civilized", but in my experience, civilization's a sliding scale.]

Blackarrow says "That could be something, but it's not a lead we can pursue yet. Right now I have to break into the College, but I'll need your help. Since the College doubles as a temple, I'll need you to bring me in as another of the many wounded yesterday. They shouldn't question it much, and if they do, I have the wounds from that Ogre to prove it. From there, I should be able to slip away and find the Professor."
He then gives a light chuckle and adds "Then again, you're the break-in specialist. I don't suppose you have another route in?"

OOC: There was an OC thread started in case others didn't see it (I just now saw it somewhat late).
Oloric suggests to the group that we split up based on their thoughts: Blackarrow needs to take care of something so he should do that. Whoever needs to join him can help. Oloric has stealth if that's needed but is a newbie to town. He is persuasive though but not conspicuous.
The other group should plan to free the goblin later. He suggests using a sleep spell on the guards and taking the goblin out of town. Unless others prefer to ask permission from the town which he'll oblige. We could even stage it as the goblin being saved by his comrades instead of us if need be, etc.
We also need to go and see what supplies can be gotten to help our journey. Anyone have qualms about taking the goblin to help us find where we need to go? Once he leads us in the right direction i'm guessing Hraken can help find it but he might lie if we don't bring him. Going west when we need to go east would be not so fun hehe.
Anyways, let me know how you'd all like to proceed. I think stealing him away is the easiest after we have supplies and we can hunt them down and try to learn something.
However, it occurs to me we might want someone to return to town with news once we find something out. Perhaps we do take the guards and let them go with information once we have it?

Wordwise touches the thief's shoulder and then the Sorcerer. "I see no reason why we can't all be friends." He hums then sings softly words in the arcane tongue. Squatting before the Hobgoblin he looks in his eyes as he quietly sings. (Charm Person) "Now friend, we need to find our friends. Where would the goblins hold our friends."
Morrik looks at you with glazed eyes and a happy fanged smile,"Sarnith is under the protection of the Baroness of Rivenroar. It is she that asked for the prisoners by name. She promises to make him an army."
"This is bad, this is bad." Nodwick is backing away from the hobgoblin.
"What would the Baroness need with our people?" Red states even the old guard looks shaken at the naming of the Baroness of Rivenroar.

Oloric looks to the group and the guards "Who is the Baroness and where does she reside? How far is it?"
OOC: Oloric will want to head to the supply area. He will specifically look to see if he can acquire a healing potion. Not sure he needs anything else but travel gear if it's far.
Will we need horses? If so is a warhorse available for Malik to borrow?
Not sure if blackarrow tells us about the college and what he is planning? If so great or else we can plan to meet up

[OOC: I think Blackarrow's still talking to his halfing friend in the rafters of the Council hall.]
"Well, new friend, we might need to visit your friend the Baroness. What can you tell us about her, and how we might meet her? For that matter, how many of your other friends are there with her? It would be terrible if we had some kind of misunderstanding."

Not sure if blackarrow tells us about the college and what he is planning? If so great or else we can plan to meet up Hraken suggested it to him, so he would likely assume that is what Blackarrow is up to. It looks like hes getting a thread for that, I'm not sure if we should wait for him to do what hes gotta do. I'd hate to leave without him. It seems like the "Rescue at Rivenroar" will be the next big stage, so I assume we don't want to leave him behind. Maybe the questioning of the professor won't take long, and that could all have happened during this interrogation.

Morrik laughes and chokes,"The lich is no ones friend. I'm not sure how the boss didn't end up dead. Not sure why they work together. The old bag of hate wanted those people and promised Sanrith the Red Hand would be born again." He looks to the guards,"everyone in Brindol knows where Rivenroar is. It is the one place they are scared to go."

Wordwise thinks back to the sad tale of the Baroness of Rivenroar. He relates to all the story of a century ago. The keep of Rivenroar was friend in trade and protection. The Baroness Jarionallas was a power leader and mage. She would not give up power. She would allow herself to pass beyond this life. She used the potions and magics she could to live a thousand years. Her desendents lived under her rule watching her slowly slide into madness. Her transfer into the undead led to her family and citizens fleeing the keep to other homes in the vale. The Rivenroar woods became the Witchwoods and the Baroness and her undead rule it from her keep in the Giantshield mountains at the start of the Rivenroar (a rapid river that begins the moutains and runs through the Witchwoods).

Hraken growls to himself. He did not like the sound of this news. He was a goblin hunter, and was unfamiliar with the strange powers of the undead.
"If that is where they took the prisoners, that is where we must go. We must not waste time, who knows what that evil queen has planned for those people"
Hraken wanted to get revenge against the goblins, but in truth, he was more concerned about the fate of the young boy.

Oloric looks to the others. "I'm not sure they are paying enough to warrant my help against a lich. Goblins and ogres are one thing, but liches and undead are quite another. Their " assistance" better involve a very plush amount of equipment. I lost more in the last battle!"
