I just wanted to get some opinions before we get deep into combats and such. 4e was a very tactical system. 5e is presented currently as very narrative. Which do you prefer a very defined tactical game, a very narrative theater of the mind game, or somewhere in the middle?

I agree with Paelias.
As long as we know the general positions and distances between things, we can use theater of the mind. I think we can pretty well gauge whether something is out of range or obscured by obstacles, and if there is a blatant mistake, you can let us know so we can change our action. Something like that.
For example, if I tried to hit a goblin I thought was next to me, you might tell me he is a little farther away, and I would have to move a little first.
Narrative and tactical like: in the scene I am in, you could say "The goblin has run towards the door to the otherside of the fireplace" I would assume my vision is mostly obscured of him and would have to run around the obstacle to see.
As long as were not taking too much liberation with our actions... I prefer tactical narrative
