The College of Majere rises above the quiet residences around it. It's domed tower rising 20 stories in the air is the tallest building in the city of Brindol. Students enjoy the terrace and balconies of the highest levels that look out over Brindol and the orchards nearby. Only Brindol Keep and the Temple (shrine) or Magnus are near it in size. The school only accepts a hundred new students a year and only a fraction of those accepted will graduate from it's programs in science, magic, alchemy, government, or economics. Candidates from throughout the Elsir Vale travel each year to be judged for the College. Ned has pointed you to a balcony 6 stories up that is the lab/classroom/home of the Professor Mengil. The Gnome has been a professor for many a decade in the chemistry and alchemy departments.

Blackarrow looks the area up and down. "That's an impressive climb...and also an impressive drop. I'll try to work my way up without being seen. I don't suppose you know if there are any magical alarms placed on the building?"
If he gets an answer, he'll continue "I can take the time I need on the entry, but the exit...not so much. If you can find anything to pad a potential drop, I might need it. Then, we'll just rush into the nearest sewer grate, and nobody's the wiser."
OOC: What color is the tower? If it's beige/brown, could Blackarrow throw some dust or dirt from the ground onto his cloak to camouflage his climb up?

It is grey so a little rubbing of dirt and stone dust should camo you. Roll an athletics (DC8) for the climb and roll for the stealth (DC8). The suspended lessons for the day so students could help with the recovery and check on family. There are not many people in this part of town.

Blackarrow chuckles "Well Ned, this may be easier than when we were young fools still learning how to fight." He quickly scales the building a story a second, making it to the top while somehow not being noticed despite his fairly poor job trying to hide.
Athletics: 17. Stealth: 10.

Ned beats him to the top and is a small form crouched on the balcony. "I'll keep watch you go talk to the professor."
Looking in the room you see the diminutive professor sorting beakers, jars, and chemicals.

"Just make sure nobody watches you." he replies softly "You know we can't be caught together."
He softly makes his way within arms' reach (his, not the gnome's) of the professor, and says in a low voice. "Interesting pottery collection professor. I myself am a bit of an enthusiast."
He pulls out the pot Hraken gave him "In fact, just yesterday I found this one in the possession of a few goblins. I don't suppose you know how that could have happened?"
Intimidation: 16.

The professor jumps back! "It's you. The Blackarrow. You saved one of my students a few moons ago. Promising student with a promising future. You assured that." He takes the pottery from you hand,"This is gnomish work. You see this mark," He points to a decorative curve on the back."This is part of a gnomish guild mark. Now that looks to be the mark of the Umbraforge guild out of the Shadowfell. They make siege weapons, explosives, and the like."
OOC: Remember you found pottery at the Hall of great Valor that smelled of embalming fluid.

"Interesting. I wasn't able to take a sample, but another group of goblins possessed pottery with the scent of embalming fluid. Would that be a suitable substitute for alchemists' fire, or would it serve another purpose?"

'I don't know about goblins but I have been making jars of embalming fluid for the City Council the last 10 years." he looks to you."If you had a piece of pottery I could tell if it was mine."

Blackarrow shakes his head. "The goblins smashed them all. Did the Council every tell you WHY they needed so many jars of embalming fluid in the back of the Hall of Valor? That seems like a very odd place to keep them, and they almost seemed to be the goblins primary target." Perhaps they were hiding something in them the Council didn't want seen. Something taken during the Battle of Brindol.

"They wanted to keep an account and storage of some biological material. They have been doing it for a decade."

10 years. That perfectly lines up with the battle. Blackarrow says "Well, then it seems that is all I can learn. Thank you for your assistance, I admit I did not expect you to be so forthcoming. May the days be ever kind to you, professor."
With that, he backs away and, if the coast is clear, scurries back down to the ground. Once he and Ned are safely away from prying ears and eyes, he'll report what he learned. "So, we have Shadowfell to blame for the fire pots, and the jars...well, I can't be certain, but they must have been storing some portion of goblin anatomy gathered from the battle, there's no other biological material that could have been collected in such mass at the same time. Considering the age and gender of the assailants...I fear I may know exactly what portion of the anatomy they stored, and considering that a midwife was kidnapped, I have a good idea of what it will be used for, although I would prefer not to know exactly how."
"What I do know, however, is that the Council made this decision, so they are the ones who angered the goblins and are to blame for the attacks. It will be very difficult to convince the rest of the town of the Council's guilt, or even that what they've done is considered wrong. I may have to venture from the city to gather evidence from their encampment."

"Well you do that. I will be finding a place to hide." Ned states."I do know that the Lord Warden has been in charge of the hiring and paying of bounties. I've heard a few drunken hunters some years back laugh about what the Lord Warden was paying extra for."
